FAQ
Will you give me advice?
We very rarely tell our clients what to do. We believe changes are more likely to last if you decide to make them for yourself. In the first few sessions, we will work collaboratively with you to develop goals to work on throughout therapy. As your therapist I can help you to gain insight about your feelings and understand the pros and cons of a situation, but ultimately only you can make definitive choices in your life.
Will you think I’m weird?
Probably not, I have worked with a lot of different kinds of people and respect and honor all individuals/couples. In the initial phone call or during the time we’re working with you, if I am not able to help you with your needs I’ll refer you to some people who might be better able to help.
How long can I expect to come to therapy?
There is no definitive answer to this question. Though it’s safe to say more than a session or two is necessary to make any headway on what brings someone in. Some individuals/couples find a few sessions are sufficient while others choose to continue long-term. Often individuals/couples choose to continue to work with me through additional layers as they arise. There isn’t necessarily a correct answer, but we can collaborate together to help you reach your goal.
Where is your office located?
Exclusively Online!
The video interface we use is safe, secure, confidential, HIPAA-compliant and meets the highest standards of online privacy platforms available.
I want to come to your office for in-person sessions. Can you make an exception?
In order to protect everyone’s health we are doing exclusively telehealth at this time.
Is Telehealth effective?
The good news is even before COVID-19 hit, telehealth was widely used. It helped therapists support people who live in rural areas, people with intense anxiety, people with mobility-related disabilities and people who wanted more flexibility.
Yes, people feel better after seeing a therapist online. Yes, those benefits are sustained over time in a way that’s comparable to what you would expect from seeing an in-person therapist. And yes, I can feel good about delivering services in this way, because telehealth does indeed work as well as in-person therapy.
How often are sessions?
With new clients, I always schedule weekly sessions. Scheduling less frequently makes it difficult to maintain momentum while you and I are in the process of getting to know each other. As progress is achieved, you and I may decide it would be better for you to come to therapy every other week, come once a month and eventually transition out of therapy.
What do I do if I’m in crisis?
If you are in a state of extreme panic or hopelessness, or have a psychiatric emergency of any kind, please go to the nearest emergency room, call 911 or call the National Suicide Hotline 1-800-273-8255.
What are your rates and hours?
I charge $100 per 45-minute session for individuals and $120 per 45- minute session for couples.
In certain circumstances, you may qualify for a lower fee.
I offer appointments on weekday evenings, as well as Saturday mornings and early afternoons.
Do you take insurance?
Yes, Blue Cross Blue Shields of Massachusetts.
However, many insurance plans provide out-of-network (OON) mental health coverage. If you receive any OON benefits from your insurance coverage I can offer a receipt with appropriate details for you to request reimbursement from your insurance carrier.
What if I can’t afford your fee?
Don’t let my fee discourage you from contacting me. I’ve found that more often than not I’m able to come up with an acceptable arrangement.
How can I make an appointment?
